Umrao Jaan’s sequel announced – Rekha approached to enact

Mumbai: Rekha’s 1981 classical Umrao Jaan was the movie which had made the whole nation crazy for the film and the songs. The movie got hugely popular all at once and the masses started seeing standing at the ticket window. The film was made by Muzaffar Ali and it was his first liaison with the camera. Post this flick, Ali just made one more film and then retired very quietly from the filmdom to pursue with poetry, designing and his love for paintings. Umrao Jaan also won first National Award for Rekha for her marvelous performance in the movie.

The film’s music turned utterly popular that the whole nation began humming the songs around. Still the entire album of Umrao Jaan is quite popular among music lovers. It is still fresh and that is the beauty of the songs and the poetry.

Now the sequel to Umrao Jaan has been announced and Muzaffar Ali is making his comeback with this venture. He wants Rekha to enact the meaty role in the film. She has been approached by the makers but still there is no response from her end. Hopefully she will say ‘yes’ to the offer. Muzaffar has even asked the original writer of the film Javed Siddique to scribble down the sequel and the screenplay of the movie. Javed too makes it confirm that he is working on the story and the script of the flick.

Other cast is still to be finalized. Let’s wait to see who writes the lyrics since this film’s original power would be its music – lyrics and songs (composition). Thus a worthy composer needs to be hired to score the tunes for the album that will have to be pretty hummable.

If Rekha says ‘yes’, the pleasures would be mammoth as she is the real epitome of beauty and the film is known for her.
